A recently published study from researchers in the Department of Environmental Health and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center was selected by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) as a Paper of the Month. The NIEHS-funded study, published in the journal Neurotoxicology, revealed that children in East Liverpool, Ohio who had higher levels of manganese (Mn) in their hair had lower IQ scores.

Researchers on the community collaborative paper included Erin Haynes, DrPH, associate professor; Kim Dietrich, PhD, professor; Heidi Sucharew, PhD, associate professor; Nicholas Newman, assistant professor; and Timothy Hilbert and Pierce Kuhnell, as well as partners from the Kent State East Liverpool campus and a local community organization.
